Marcella Gordijn Fine Art Sculptures

A little bit about me :

I Was born in the south of the Netherlands, in the City of Maastricht, the oldest city of the Netherlands , founded by the Romans , at the time known as Mosa Trajectum, which means, Crossing the River Maas, 20km from the German border and close to the Belgium border,so from a young age familiar with other languages and other customs
People ask me often, how I got the interest and the talent to do what I do:
P1050480That is a good question!! I can only come up with two things and that is that I got this from my father Thom, a multi talent. What he saw, he could make, and my interest in the history and art of the Antique World and Egypt in particular, what I learned from my brother Peter at a very young age, say 10 years old. History was my favorit subject at school.

I visited Egypt for the first time in 1992 and from that moment on I was addicted. I wanted to know more more and more again. In that same year I visited an exhibition of a well known sculpturist Louis Wiertz in the south of the Netherlands where I lived at the time. He also gave lessons and the idea that I could make my own Egyptian statues made me decide on the spot to take lessons from him. I did this for 6 years.

I followed classes of Egyptology for 3 years from a Prof. of the University of Leiden, including hieroglyphics in ” The Oudheidkundig Museum” in Leiden, which has a tremendous collection of Egyptian art, amongst others a real temple rebuilt! Can you imagine wandering around this museum and absorbing it all, it was magic ! In the meantime I visited Egypt more than 20 times and because my interest in the Antique world did’nt stop at Egypt alone, I also visited Greece (Krete) , Italy (Rome) and Jordan ( Petra) several times, maybe that is one of the reasons we now live in the Provence, one of the first Roman provinces, who knows ! My signature is the Egyptian Anch sign, Key of life. My other interest in sculpture is torsos, very figurative and elegant, and one of my specialties is portrait heads.

About exhibitions: I had several , most in the Netherlands! some in France

And for those who are interested in the art of sculpture, I give classes in modeling !
